Are you feeling exhausted, uninspired or frustrated? Losing motivation and focus on your goals or life in general is very common. In those moments of discomfort, your mind and body is asking for some much deserved self-care.
Why self-care matters?
It's so important you remember to take great care of your mind, body and soul. In between the daily hustle and bustle of life, you should also take the necessary time to recharge yourself. Give yourself the same care and attention that you give to others and watch yourself bloom!
How to maintain a healthy routine?
Practicing self-care is a conscious habit you develop over time. It's first important to understand what self-care means to you, and later identify which approach you will use to engage with self-care.
Here are 8 tips to get you started with your self-care routine:
1. Say no more often
This can be a challenge for those who find it hard to simply say no! Remember you're not obligated to attend every social event, or to grab drinks or dinner with friends. It's good to say no to others and yes to your self-care. Your environment can also play a big part in your overall discomfort. It's healthy to practice politely saying no, and you'll soon feel more empowered.
2. Learn a new hobby or skill
Learning a new hobby or skill can be very therapeutic and reduce stress levels. Developing a new hobby or skill gives a sense of purpose outside of the work space. It's a personal accomplishment that improves your self-esteem and self-confidence. Hobbies can greatly improve your intellectual, physical and creative self-care.
3. Organize your goals
It's very common to feel overwhelmed and disoriented when you're not aligned with your goals. When creating goals, always remember to practice the S.M.A.R.T. acronym. Each goal should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely. The first step to organizing your goals, is to categorize and write out each goal. These goals should then be refined into actionable steps. It's also important to add deadlines to each goal, and to monitor results and adjust accordingly throughout the year.
4. Join a wellness class
Fitness goes beyond just exercising your body. It's also a great source for exercising your mind and soul. Join a Yoga or Pilates class to improve flexibility, strength and meditation. Both follow techniques focused on breathing exercises to calm the mind and trigger a relaxed response.
5. Disconnect for short periods on social media
Social media is a great resource for connecting with others and feeding your creative needs. However, it can become overwhelming when navigating between the constantly growing noise. Taking a much needed break from social media can be the healthiest boundary you set for yourself. This allows for extra free-time to focus on your goals, and to return to social media mentally and emotionally stronger.
6. Develop an aromatherapy skincare routine
Create a self-soothing skincare routine to relax and unwind after a long and stressful day. Set the ambiance; rather than rushing through your skincare routine. Turn on a playlist filled with soft and relaxing music. Light scented candles and dim the lights. Create an ambient and energy-boosting atmosphere with aromatherapy burners and essential oils.
7. Learn and cook healthier recipes
When you look great, you feel great. A healthy diet goes hand-in-hand with a healthy self-care routine. It's important to replenish and nourish your body with proper nutrients. Drink lots of water to help flush toxins out your body and to boost your immune system. Try experimenting with more plant based recipes, and you'll notice an overall improvement in your mood and physical appearance.
8. Schedule time for your self-care routine
It can be hard to find time in between our daily routines to practice self-care. However, it's extremely important to properly schedule and practice a healthy self-care routine. These moments are vital when assessing personal goals for growth. It's important to remember to say no to others and yes to your self-care. The more you practice self-care the better your overall mental, physical and emotional state will grow.
